Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, relief of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc.
This medication helps treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers and is also used to relieve symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, it is applied for the long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease to manage symptoms. In patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, its therapeutic effect is enhanced when used in combination with antibiotics. Furthermore, it is effective in conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, this medication is used for various gastrointestinal ulcers and gastrointestinal diseases.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Usually, 10 mg is administered orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. Treatment lasts up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is administered once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not resolve after 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment, continue with additional treatment.
This medication should not be used in patients with certain allergic reactions or in those who have previously had hypersensitivity to this drug or similar ingredients. Additionally, it is prohibited for patients taking certain antibiotics or medications, as well as for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients with reduced liver function or the elderly should use this medication with caution, and patients with a history of allergies should also be careful. If allergic symptoms such as skin rash or itching occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately. Regular blood tests and liver function tests should be conducted, and if any abnormal findings are detected, the medication should be discontinued and appropriate measures taken. Various side effects may occur in different parts of the body, such as the heart, gastrointestinal system, nervous system, respiratory system, and musculoskeletal system, so medical advice should be sought if symptoms arise. Caution is needed as the risk of bone fractures may increase with long-term use, and hypomagnesemia may occur, requiring periodic monitoring of blood magnesium levels. This medication significantly suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract. Drowsiness or dizziness may occur during use, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Since interactions with certain medications may occur, patients taking other medications should inform their healthcare provider, and caution is necessary when used in combination. It is safer not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and its safety in children has not been established. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but appropriate treatment according to symptoms is necessary, and this medication should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing. Keep out of reach of children, and avoid transferring to other containers. For long-term use, it should be taken at the minimum dosage and for an appropriate duration as directed by a doctor, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately.
