Thioctic acid supplementation when demand is increased; treatment of Leigh syndrome and inner ear hearing loss
Thioctic acid is distributed when the demand increases due to intense physical labor and is used in the treatment of subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis such as Leigh syndrome. It is also effective for toxic sensorineural hearing loss caused by streptomycin or kanamycin and noise-induced sensorineural hearing loss. However, if there is no effect after about one month of administration, it is recommended to discontinue use. This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of various neurological and inner ear-related disorders.
Usually, administer 10~25mg of thioctic acid intravenously once daily to adults. However, adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication is in ampoule form, and care must be taken when opening the container to prevent glass fragments from entering. There is no accurate frequency survey yet regarding potential side effects associated with this medication; however, gastrointestinal symptoms such as decreased appetite, nausea, and diarrhea may occur. Additionally, skin rashes, headaches, dizziness, and symptoms of palpitations may also occur.
