This medication is an adjunct to diet for the treatment of patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including familial or non-familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. In patients at risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, these lipid-lowering agents are used in conjunction with an appropriate diet that includes restrictions on saturated fats and cholesterol, and are to be administered when dietary measures alone are not sufficiently effective. Prior to using this medication, it is necessary to identify and treat any secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, and lipid profiles should be monitored for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides. Additionally, in cases of very high triglyceride levels or in patients with acute coronary events, special testing may be required to inform treatment plans. Through this process, the patient's blood lipid status is effectively improved.
