Treatment and prevention of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcers, and relief of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This medication is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and is also suitable for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence. It is effective in treating and preventing peptic ulcers and duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. It alleviates upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and also helps treat and prevent associated gastric ulcers. It is utilized in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and as maintenance therapy following the prevention of rebleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers. Therefore, it is very effective for the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication should be swallowed with liquid such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. - If esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms continue, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment therapy: 20 mg once daily.
Adolescents over 12 years old - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Symptomatic treatment therapy: 20 mg once daily; if symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional treatment is required.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to this drug or its ingredients, those who have had hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazoles, patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, patients currently taking specific heart-related medications, patients with a history of myocardial infarction, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Various side effects can occur when taking this medication, so caution is warranted. Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, while serious symptoms such as blood abnormalities, hypersensitivity reactions, hypomagnesemia, mental confusion, skin rash, liver function abnormalities, and myalgia may occur infrequently. If severe or persistent symptoms occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Regular examinations are required when using this medication for a long period, specifically monitoring is essential if taken for more than one year due to the increased risk of fractures and potential hypomagnesemia. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Care should be taken when used in combination with anticoagulants, antiviral medications, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and antidepressants. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently confirmed, so it should be used cautiously under a doctor's judgment, and it is recommended not to take this medication while breastfeeding. In the event of an overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptoms should be monitored and general treatment should be received; safe storage, such as keeping it out of reach of children, is necessary.
Hives, angioedema, anaphylactic reaction, shock, hypomagnesemia, mental confusion, pancreatitis, jaundice, liver failure, skin and mucosal syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), myopathy, nephritis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, myocardial infarction and its history, severe skin adverse effects.
