How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken 2 times a day with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg of this medication taken 2 times a day at a dose of 1 tablet, which can be increased to 50/1000 mg taken 2 times a day at a dose of 1 tablet. 2. Precautions

This medication consists of two ingredients, each used for diabetes treatment. The first ingredient is sitagliptin, and during treatment, serious allergic reactions may occur, requiring caution. Allergic reactions may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, severe skin reactions, etc. If these symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause pancreatitis, a serious side effect involving inflammation of the pancreas; therefore, if abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur during treatment, inform a physician immediately. The second ingredient, metformin, should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or heart failure. This medication can accumulate in cases of reduced kidney function, leading to lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic complication, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment. Metformin can also cause severe hypoglycemia; thus, caution should be exercised, particularly in cases of irregular meals, intense exercise, or concurrent use of other glucose-lowering medications. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, take immediate action. Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment with this medication, and temporarily discontinue it before and after surgery. Additionally, this medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, and the elderly should use it cautiously due to a higher likelihood of impaired kidney function. During treatment, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, and infections may occur as side effects, and if severe joint pain, skin rash, or blisters develop, consult a physician immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be conducted to ensure safe use.
