Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which are used for diabetes treatment. First, when taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as hives or difficulty breathing develop, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, this medication may cause severe inflammation of the pancreas known as pancreatitis, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occurs, seek medical attention promptly. The metformin component can cause a rare but fatal metabolic abnormality known as lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as shortness of breath, muscle pain, extreme fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, inform a healthcare professional immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function, severe infections or dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Particularly, if undergoing tests that use contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the test, and should only be resumed once normal kidney function is confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not use this medication, and its safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 18 years of age. During treatment, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase due to irregular meals, excessive exercise, or interactions with other medications, so caution is advised. While taking this medication, it is advisable to have regular kidney function and blood checks, as well as periodic monitoring of vitamin B12 levels. Furthermore, alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it should be avoided during treatment. In cases of surgery, discontinue this medication 48 hours prior and only resume once normal kidney function has been confirmed after recovery. Side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, upper respiratory infections may occur while taking this medication, and if severe joint pain, skin rashes, or blistering diseases develop, inform a physician immediately. Finally, when using this medication alongside insulin or other blood sugar-lowering agents such as sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so if symptoms occur, immediately consume sugar and consult with a physician.
