Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
Chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout is treated to lower uric acid levels, prevent worsening of symptoms, and avoid complications. This medication helps control blood uric acid concentration, reduces the frequency and severity of gout attacks, and prevents joint damage. Continuous treatment alleviates pain and inflammation associated with chronic hyperuricemia and improves overall quality of life. This treatment is an important part of gout management.
1. Adults This medicine is administered at a dose of 40 mg or 80 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Because this medicine acts very rapidly, serum uric acid levels should be rechecked after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to lower and maintain serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). 2. Patients with renal impairment No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30mL/min). 3. Patients with hepatic impairment No special dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this medicine have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child Pugh class C).
This medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular death when used in patients with cardiovascular disease, so caution is advised if there is a history of cardiovascular disease. Patients who are allergic to the main ingredient of this medication or its excipients, those taking specific drugs (Mercaptopurine, Azathioprine), and those with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with a history of liver disease should undergo regular liver function tests during treatment with this medication, and caution is also required for patients with thyroid dysfunction. Patients with heart disease or heart failure, as well as those taking specific medications (Theophylline), should be careful when using this medication. Do not start taking this medication during an acute gout attack, and initial treatment may temporarily worsen gout attacks, so it should be used with appropriate management. This medication can cause various side effects such as liver dysfunction, diarrhea, headaches, rashes, dizziness, etc., so if any abnormal symptoms occur, consult a healthcare professional immediately. If symptoms of liver dysfunction appear, discontinue use immediately and seek testing; if liver enzyme levels significantly rise, re-administration should be avoided. This medication may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication, and there is no experience in administration for children under 18 years old, so it should not be administered to them. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment should be received, and it should be stored out of reach of children. There may be interactions with other drugs, so especially patients taking Mercaptopurine, Azathioprine, Theophylline should inform their healthcare provider and use caution when combining medications.
