This medication should not be used in individuals allergic to alfuzosin or any other ingredients in the medication, patients with orthostatic hypotension, those with severely impaired liver function, severely reduced kidney function, bowel obstruction, patients already on other alpha blockers, or those taking strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. Additionally, this drug can cause orthostatic hypotension when first administered, especially in patients taking other antihypertensive medications. Symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and sweating may occur; if these symptoms arise, it is advisable to rest lying down. Older adults and those with heart conditions should be more cautious, and if symptoms are severe, medical consultation is necessary. This medication should not be used alone in patients with coronary artery diseases, and should be discontinued if angina symptoms worsen. It should also be administered cautiously in patients with prolonged QT interval or those taking QT-prolonging medications. Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fainting, upper respiratory infections, dyspepsia, constipation, fatigue, and erectile dysfunction. If these symptoms occur, inform your doctor. Rarely, skin rash or thrombocytopenia has been reported. Patients planning cataract surgery should inform their ophthalmologist of this medication usage, and the tablets should be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed. Moreover, taking it in conjunction with other alpha blockers or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase the risk of side effects such as hypotension, so caution is needed.
