Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin and Metformin work together to effectively manage blood sugar levels. This medication has better effects when coupled with dietary and exercise therapy. It supports patients in maintaining a healthier blood sugar state, thus playing an important role in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by Metformin. The initial dose is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. Patients not receiving Metformin: The initial dose is 1 tablet (50/500 mg) taken twice daily, with potential increase to 50/1000 mg. 2. Patients receiving Metformin:
This medication is composed of two ingredients: Sitagliptin and Metformin. Sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, this medication should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Additionally, serious pancreatic inflammation known as pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting arise, healthcare professionals should be notified promptly. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder, and should not be administered when severe dehydration, acute infections, or heart problems are present. It is particularly safe to refrain from using this medication in patients with impaired kidney function or liver damage. This medication should be temporarily discontinued prior to certain tests or surgeries and can be restarted only after confirming normal kidney function post-procedure. Furthermore, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, thus caution is needed for irregular eating or intense exercising, and hypoglycemic symptoms should be closely monitored when taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or children under 18 years of age. In elderly patients, regular monitoring of kidney function is required as kidney function may decline, leading to dosage adjustments. Alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and any sudden onset of muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or severe fatigue should be reported to a doctor immediately. Lastly, possible side effects of this medication include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headaches, upper respiratory infections, etc., and if any symptoms persist, patients should consult with their healthcare provider.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering, at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's effectiveness for a longer period.
