How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage should be increased gradually to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects associated with metformin. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: The initial dosage is one tablet (50/500 mg) twice daily, and the dose may be increased to one tablet (50/1000 mg) twice daily. 2. Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used in diabetes treatment. First, this medication may cause serious allergic reactions during use, so if symptoms such as rash or difficulty breathing appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, this medication may cause a condition known as pancreatitis, where inflammation of the pancreas occurs; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur, immediate medical attention is required. In cases of severe renal dysfunction, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe infection, etc., it may be dangerous to take this medication, so it should not be administered in these situations. Especially, before and after examinations using iodine contrast media, there is a risk of renal function deterioration and lactic acidosis; hence, the medication should be discontinued at least 48 hours prior to the examination and resumed only after confirming that renal function is normal. It is safer not to use this medication in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women. While taking this medication, it is essential to maintain regular meals and exercise, and to undergo regular blood glucose and renal function tests. Due to the metformin component, a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis may occur, so if symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, weakness, or abdominal pain appear, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Also, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so patients should carefully monitor blood sugar levels, especially if taken in conjunction with other blood sugar-lowering agents. This medication should be avoided or used with caution in conditions such as liver dysfunction, severe infections, dehydration, excessive alcohol consumption, and malnutrition. When undergoing surgery, discontinue medication 48 hours prior to the surgery, and resume only after oral intake is normal and renal function is confirmed post-surgery. While taking this medication, vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, so it is advisable to regularly check vitamin B12 levels. Finally, since there are medications that may interact with this medication, if other medicines are being taken, it is crucial to inform the doctor or pharmacist. It is essential to follow the precautions mentioned above for safe treatment while taking this medication.
