Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. While taking this medication, allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may rarely occur as a serious side effect; therefore, if abdominal pain, vomiting, or persistent abdominal discomfort occurs, visit a hospital without delay. Patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, or heart failure may face risks from using this medication, so consultation with a doctor before use is essential. Specifically, patients who are scheduled for tests using iodinated contrast agents should cease taking this medication for a period before and after the test and should resume only after confirming normal kidney function. It is safer for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers to avoid using this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so caution is advised during irregular meals or vigorous exercise; and the risk of hypoglycemia may be higher if taken with other blood glucose-lowering agents. During use, symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, and upper respiratory infections may occur; in severe cases, consult a doctor. The metformin component may rarely cause vitamin B12 deficiency, so if taken for an extended period, it is recommended to regularly check vitamin B12 levels through blood tests. Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided while taking this medication, and if food intake is difficult due to surgery or severe illness, temporary discontinuation of the medication may be necessary. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function and should undergo regular kidney function testing, and dosage adjustment may be necessary. In case of overdose, visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment; this medication can be partially removed by hemodialysis. It is important to regularly check blood glucose, kidney function, and blood tests during treatment to monitor overall health status.
