Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, both of which are used to aid blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes. When taking this medication, severe hypersensitivity reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. If severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever—a sign of acute pancreatitis—occurs, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately. Patients with severely decreased kidney function, heart failure, severe infections, dehydration, and those in a state of acute myocardial infarction or sepsis should not take this medication. Before and after examinations utilizing iodine contrast agents, the risk of kidney damage and lactic acidosis is present, thus the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and dosing should resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. It is safest for pregnant or potentially pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under 18 years old to refrain from using this medication. Lactic acidosis, a rare but severe side effect, may occur; if symptoms such as fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, vomiting, or hypothermia occur, consult a doctor immediately. Additionally, hypoglycemia may occur, so caution is advised during periods of missed or irregular meals and excessive exercise, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used alongside other blood sugar-lowering medications. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests, especially vitamin B12 levels, is necessary during the use of this medication, and it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption. In case of surgery, discontinue the medication 48 hours prior, and resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications, particularly those that can affect kidney function. If blisters appear on the skin or severe joint pain arises during this medication's use, notify a doctor immediately, and discontinuation may be necessary. Finally, this medication aids in blood sugar control but it is also important to maintain a proper diet and exercise regimen; if any unusual symptoms arise during medication use, consult healthcare providers without delay.
