Precautions

This medication contains two ingredients: sitagliptin and metformin, which are used in the treatment of diabetes. First, sitagliptin can cause serious allergic reactions in some patients. Such reactions may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and serious skin rashes, so if any abnormal symptoms occur within 3 months of taking the medication, you should stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, you should notify medical staff immediately. Metformin can cause a rare but very dangerous metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis. This condition may be accompanied by symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain, and if such symptoms occur, you should stop taking the medication immediately and visit a hospital. This medication should not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function, severe infections or dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or other specific conditions. Furthermore, the medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after tests involving radiocontrast agents, and it is also advisable for patients with liver dysfunction or for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding to avoid using this medication. During the medication period, blood sugar control should be checked periodically, and kidney function and vitamin B12 levels should also be tested regularly. This is especially crucial for elderly patients or those with weak kidney function. This medication can induce hypoglycemia, so caution is needed regarding hypoglycemic symptoms when meals are skipped or irregular, or when taken alongside other blood glucose-lowering agents. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include dizziness, headache, tremors, and cold sweat. Moreover, excessive alcohol intake should be avoided during the use of this medication, and caution should also be taken in cases of intense exercise or poor nutritional status, as this can increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. If you are undergoing surgery, you should stop taking the medication 48 hours prior to the surgery, and after confirming that kidney function has returned to normal post-surgery, you may restart the medication. Finally, if symptoms such as skin blisters or severe joint pain occur during the use of this medication, you should immediately inform your doctor and discontinue the medication.
