This medication is a treatment to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes when used in combination with sitagliptin and metformin. It helps manage blood sugar effectively when used alongside dietary and exercise therapies. How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this medication is determined within the range not exceeding 100 mg of sitagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin, taking into account the patient's therapeutic regimen, efficacy, and tolerance. In general, it is taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects caused by metformin. 1. Patients not receiving metformin treatment: The initial dose is 50/500 mg of this medication taken twice daily.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions after administration; therefore, if symptoms like skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, you should stop using it immediately and consult a doctor. During the treatment, there is a risk of developing serious pancreatic inflammation called pancreatitis; therefore, if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever appear, you should inform medical personnel right away. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or heart failure should not take this medication. Especially, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before tests using radiological iodine contrast agents, and should only be resumed after kidney function has been confirmed as normal post-examination. It is safe not to use this medication for pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers. This medication can cause hypoglycemia; therefore, particularly when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, it is important to check blood sugar frequently and be alert for symptoms of hypoglycemia. Additionally, this medication is not recommended for patients with liver dysfunction, and those with liver disease should consult their doctor before use. It is important to monitor kidney function and blood tests regularly during treatment. Excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication can increase the risk of serious side effects like lactic acidosis, so alcohol should be avoided. If undergoing surgery, stop taking this medication 48 hours before the surgery and resume only after the condition stabilizes and kidney function is confirmed normal post-surgery. In the case of children or elderly patients, caution is required as the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been fully established or renal function may be impaired. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, headaches, cold symptoms, and joint pain may occur, and you should consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. Lastly, this medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform medical personnel of any other medications being taken.
