Precautions

This drug contains two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, which may occur within 3 months of taking the medication. If symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or lips appear, discontinue this medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause inflammation of the pancreas, known as acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, seek medical attention immediately. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic anomaly. This symptom can begin with nonspecific symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, severe fatigue, and abdominal pain, so if these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and visit a hospital. Patients with poor kidney function or liver dysfunction should not take this medication and should undergo regular kidney function tests. This medication is not used in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe dehydration, or in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Also, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before using tests that involve iodine contrast agents and should not be resumed until kidney function is confirmed to be normal. There is a risk of hypoglycemia with this medication, so caution is advised if meals are skipped or if exercise suddenly increases, and hypoglycemia symptoms may be more pronounced when used in combination with other antidiabetic agents. While taking this medication, side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and upper respiratory infections may occur, and rarely severe joint pain or skin conditions may arise, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so excessive drinking should be avoided while on treatment. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children under 18, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers, and elderly patients should have their kidney function monitored regularly while adjusting the dosage. While taking this medication, it is important to regularly check blood sugar levels, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels, and to consult healthcare professionals immediately if any unusual symptoms arise.
