Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Firstly, sitagliptin helps to manage blood sugar levels, but can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or skin disorders. If any of these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a possibility of developing pancreatitis, so careful observation is needed if symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting arise during use. Metformin is effective in lowering blood sugar but can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder. This condition is accompanied by symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, and difficulty breathing; thus, if these symptoms occur, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Moreover, this medication should not be used by patients with impaired renal function or liver dysfunction. This medication is not for use in patients with reduced renal function, severe infections, dehydrated patients, patients with congestive heart failure, those undergoing specific contrast examinations, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also advisable for children under 18 years or patients with certain metabolic disorders to avoid this medication. During treatment, irregular eating habits, intense exercise, and interactions with other medications may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so caution is needed. In particular, when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia rises, necessitating frequent blood sugar monitoring and possible dosage adjustments. While taking this medication, it is important to regularly check renal function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels, and it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption. Furthermore, it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue the medication before and after surgery, so consult with healthcare professionals. Rarely, severe joint pain, skin disorders, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure have been reported, so if any unusual symptoms occur, inform a doctor immediately. In case of overdose, visit a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment, and blood dialysis may be considered if necessary. It is crucial that patients and their families fully understand the effects and side effects of the medication before and after taking it, alongside maintaining regular blood sugar management and improving lifestyle habits.
