Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. Severe allergic reactions may occur when taking this medication; if symptoms such as rash or difficulty breathing arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Serious side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may occur; therefore, if sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occurs, observe carefully and seek medical attention immediately. The metformin component may cause lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic disorder; therefore, patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, or severe infections should not take this medication. This medication is not to be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe infections, liver dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours before the surgery and resume it only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Patients with irregular meals or engaging in vigorous exercise, or taking other medications concurrently, should be cautious as there is a risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is necessary, and it is advisable to check vitamin levels as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may appear; if dizziness, cold sweat, or severe fatigue occur, consume sugars immediately and consult a doctor if needed. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication as alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. In elderly patients, dosage should be adjusted considering renal function, and regular monitoring is required. If this medication is overdosed, seek medical attention immediately as some components can be removed by dialysis.
