Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who uses it
Adults · Children
Adult dosage
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dosage is 10 mg of atorvastatin once daily. For patients requiring greater reduction of LDL cholesterol levels, treatment may start with 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted within the range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. Lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks after starting treatment and dosage adjustments should be made accordingly. In the case of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is 10 to 80 mg once daily, either in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such therapies are not possible. For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17), the recommended initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dosage of 20 mg once daily (there is no clinical data on doses higher than 20 mg in this pediatric population). The dosage should be adjusted according to the individual patient’s relevant treatment goals, with modifications being made at intervals of 4 weeks or more. ○ In patients with renal impairment: Renal disease does not affect atorvastatin plasma concentrations or LDL cholesterol-lowering effects, thus dosage adjustment is not required. ○ In the elderly: The efficacy and safety in patients aged 70 and older are similar to those in the general adult population.
Children's dosage
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17), the recommended initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dosage of 20 mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted based on treatment goals and may be modified every 4 weeks.

This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgeries, and angina in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina in patients with clinical evidence of coronary heart disease. Additionally, it helps control cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and increases HDL-cholesterol, thereby contributing to cardiovascular health. This medication can also be safely used in children aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as a dietary supplement. Therefore, this medication is utilized to improve risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and regulate blood lipid levels.
