Reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improves hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and congestive heart failure in adult and pediatric patients with multiple risk factors like hypertension, smoking, and diabetes. Additionally, it improves cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary and mixed dyslipidemia, and increases HDL cholesterol, thus improving blood lipid levels. This drug is used as an effective adjunct treatment for patients with hypercholesterolemia that is difficult to control through diet. It also helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Overall, it is used to maintain cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and for patients needing greater LDL-cholesterol reduction, it can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The typical dosing range is 10 - 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individually adjusted based on therapeutic goals and patient response, with lipid levels analyzed within 2-4 weeks after starting treatment to adjust the dose.
For pediatric patients (ages 10-17) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted based on therapeutic goals at intervals of more than 4 weeks.
This drug can cause muscle problems, so if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness occur, stop using it immediately and consult a doctor. This medication should not be used by patients with poor liver function, specific muscle diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children under 10 years of age.
