Precautions

This medication contains two components, sitagliptin and metformin, and is primarily used for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Firstly, during the use of this medication, serious allergic reactions may rarely occur. If symptoms such as sudden skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, stop taking the medication immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. Additionally, cases of acute pancreatitis, which involves inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported. If symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur, visit a hospital immediately. The metformin component can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis, which may manifest as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, abdominal pain, and altered consciousness. If these symptoms appear, stop taking the medication immediately and inform a healthcare professional. Patients with decreased kidney function or severe liver dysfunction may be at risk when taking this medication, so it should not be administered. Especially for patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment, severe infections, dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis, this medication should not be used, and it should be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication. While taking this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, especially with irregular eating, intense exercise, or when used together with other blood sugar-lowering medications. Furthermore, the risk of lactic acidosis increases when this medication is taken with alcohol, so it is advisable to avoid drinking. Long-term use of this medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is necessary to monitor through regular blood tests. Finally, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during the use of this medication to ensure safe treatment.
