View approved original text

This medication is a combination drug containing sitagliptin and metformin, used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is suitable for those who have not previously experienced diabetes medication treatment or have difficulty controlling blood sugar with a single drug. Additionally, it may be used when monotherapy with either metformin or sitagliptin is ineffective. If blood sugar control is difficult with the combination of metformin and sulfonylurea, or metformin and thiazolidinedione, this combination medication can be added. It is effective to use this combination when blood sugar control remains insufficient while using insulin and metformin. In summary, this medication is used to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes who struggle to achieve adequate blood sugar control with various diabetes therapies.

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, and is used for diabetes treatment. Though rare, it may cause serious allergic reactions; if symptoms such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, usage should be stopped immediately and a healthcare professional consulted. Acute pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever arise, the doctor should be notified immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with severely decreased kidney function, heart failure, severe infections, or dehydration, and should be temporarily discontinued before and after examinations using radiocontrast agents. It is not to be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, or children and adolescents under 18 years of age. As this medication is excreted through the kidneys, elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms during treatment, especially when taken together with insulin or sulfonylurea medications as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Due to the metformin component, lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic disorder, may occur, so if severe dehydration, liver disease, cardiopulmonary disease, or excessive alcohol consumption is present, usage should be stopped immediately and medical consultation should follow. During the course of treatment, regular meals and exercise should be maintained, and regular blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests should be conducted to monitor treatment effectiveness and side effects. Additionally, inform healthcare professionals if any other medications that may interact with this drug are being taken. In the case of surgery or severe trauma, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and resumed only after the patient's condition stabilizes. Finally, if there are any occurrences of blisters or severe joint pain while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately.
