Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, instill 1 to 2 drops onto the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, and gradually taper off. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics or those with a history of allergy to bacitracin. While using this medication, symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness, allergic conjunctivitis, and temporary stinging in the eye may occur, requiring immediate cessation of use if these symptoms appear. Occasionally, there could be sensations of irritation or pain in the eye, so caution is advised. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to confirm the susceptibility of the infecting organism and administer the drug only for the minimum necessary duration. It is preferable to conduct sufficient medical history inquiries and skin reaction tests to check for allergic reactions or shock possibilities in advance. Repetitive long-term use may lead to excessive proliferation of non-resistant organisms, and if bacterial replacement occurs, usage should be discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be received. The ingredients of this drug should not be used in conjunction with tetracycline-class medications. When using systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics together, careful monitoring of blood concentration is necessary. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. Temporary blurriness of vision may occur after instillation, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. Using this drug along with anticoagulants may increase anticoagulant effects, so frequent monitoring of blood coagulation status is necessary, and the anticoagulant dosage should be adjusted when needed. During pregnancy, animal studies have not reported any risk of teratogenesis, but it should only be used when necessary. During lactation, it may harm the infant, so breastfeeding should be discontinued, or it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In case of overdose, symptoms such as keratitis, redness, increased tearing, and itching of the eyelids may occur, and blood levels should be monitored to ensure they do not exceed certain limits, with blood dialysis considered if necessary. This drug should not be injected into the eye. In South Korea, some bacteria have shown resistance to this drug, so care must be taken to be aware of the occurrence of resistant bacteria during use.
