Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
Patients may have essential hypertension that is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine or valsartan. In this case, combining the two medications may be more effective for blood pressure control. Amlodipine dilates blood vessels to lower blood pressure, while valsartan blocks the action of substances that cause blood pressure to rise, stabilizing blood pressure. Using both medications together can more effectively improve blood pressure. Managing hypertension may reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended dose of this medication is one tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meal timing. It is advised to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). For patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment is not required for mild to moderate cases. For patients with liver impairment, the daily dose of valsartan should not exceed 80mg. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients over 65 years when increasing the dose.
Safety and efficacy have not been established for pediatric patients under 18 years of age, thus administration of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe renal or liver disease, or those with a history of certain heart diseases or vascular edema. In patients with insufficient fluid or sodium, hypotension may occur, so their condition should be corrected before administration and carefully monitored during treatment. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking medications that increase potassium should have their potassium levels monitored frequently. Patients with impaired kidney function or renal artery stenosis may have an increased risk of worsening kidney function, requiring careful observation. In patients with heart failure or after myocardial infarction, kidney function changes should be assessed carefully, and appropriate measures should be taken if blood pressure becomes too low. Dizziness or fatigue may occur while driving or operating machinery, requiring caution. When this medication is used in conjunction with other antihypertensives, the risks of hypotension, hyperkalemia, and worsening kidney function may increase, so blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored frequently as per the physician’s instructions. Patients with liver dysfunction may need dose adjustments, and overdose of this medication may produce symptoms such as hypotension, tachycardia, and shock, necessitating immediate medical attention. Safety in pediatric patients has not been sufficiently established, hence its use in those under 18 years of age is not recommended. For the elderly, a similar dosage to that of adults is recommended but may require caution depending on their condition. During the treatment with this medication, adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, swelling, skin rash, gastrointestinal disturbances, etc., may occur; if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is advised.
