Essential hypertension is a condition where blood pressure remains persistently high, and this medication is used to treat essential hypertension. It effectively controls blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improving overall health.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, it can be increased to 20 mg once daily, with a maximum of 40 mg. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients allergic to any ingredient in this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients on dialysis, patients with severe liver impairment, and patients with bile duct obstruction should not use this medication. Patients with low blood volume or low salt levels may experience low blood pressure, so their condition should be closely monitored before administration. Patients with severe heart failure or reduced kidney function should use this medication carefully as there is a risk of worsening kidney function. Patients with weak kidney function should have their potassium and creatinine levels checked regularly, and it is not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment. Patients with certain heart diseases or primary aldosteronism also require special caution when using this medication. As this medication lowers blood pressure, dizziness may occur, so avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery carefully. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, muscle pain may occur, and rarely face swelling or angioedema can occur. Long-term use may lead to liver dysfunction or autoimmune hepatitis, so consult a doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. Caution is required when taking this medication with other antihypertensives, potassium-sparing diuretics, or potassium supplements as it can lead to increased blood potassium levels. Taking with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can worsen kidney function; thus, renal function should be monitored regularly. Combination with lithium may increase lithium levels, leading to toxicity; therefore, it is not recommended to be taken together. Discontinuation of this medication is necessary during pregnancy due to the risk of serious fetal damage, and women who plan to become pregnant or are possibly pregnant should consult a doctor. Breastfeeding women should discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking this medication as it may be passed through breast milk and pose a risk of adverse reactions for the baby. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and caution is required when using this medication in the pediatric population. In the elderly, the drug concentration may increase, so caution is needed during administration. In case of overdose, symptoms such as low blood pressure, palpitations, and bradycardia may occur; immediate treatment should be sought if these symptoms present themselves. Long-term use of this medication has not shown any carcinogenic effects or genotoxicity; however, if unusual symptoms occur during use, consult a healthcare professional.
