Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to effectively assist blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes by complementing dietary and exercise therapy. The combination of glymeperide and metformin improves blood glucose levels and contributes to the patient's diabetes management.
This medication is administered once daily before the main meal or with the meal. In case of a missed dose, do not exceed the dosage at the next administration. Since it is a sustained-release preparation, do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole. The initial dosage is 2/500 mg once daily, and the dosage should be adjusted according to blood glucose levels and patient condition. If blood glucose is not controlled with existing sulfonylurea or metformin monotherapy, the dosage may be adjusted.
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so it should be temporarily discontinued if there is a rapid decline in kidney function or signs of dehydration. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with renal function less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m², severe liver dysfunction, cardiovascular collapse, severe infections, and patients before and after surgery. At the beginning of treatment, there is a higher risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, particular caution is advised for undernourished or fasting patients, elderly patients, and those with decreased kidney function. When taking this medication, do not crush or chew the tablets, swallow them whole, and it is recommended to take it with meals as gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur. The medication lowers blood sugar levels, so hypoglycemic symptoms (headaches, trembling, dizziness, etc.) may occur, and if any of these symptoms appear, immediate intake of sugar or consultation with a physician is necessary. Regularly check kidney function and hematological values to ensure there are no abnormalities, and monitor vitamin B12 levels if necessary, as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take this medication, and if planning to become pregnant, it is recommended to consult a physician about switching to insulin therapy. Since this medication may interact with other drugs, patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist of any medications they are currently taking, especially those affecting kidney function or alcohol, which should be avoided. In case of overdose, severe hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. Finally, during the course of this medication, it is important to maintain a regular diet and exercise, and consistently monitor blood sugar and kidney function.
