Treatment of essential hypertension for blood pressure control
This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It helps effectively manage blood pressure when telmisartan is not sufficient for blood pressure control on its own. This helps to stabilize blood pressure and reduce the risk of complications.
In patients where blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone, this medication should be taken once daily with water, regardless of meals. It is recommended to adjust each component dose individually before switching to this fixed-dose formulation. When clinically appropriate, switching directly from monotherapy to this combination medication can also be considered. - Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination 40/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 40 mg telmisartan alone. - Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 80 mg telmisartan alone. - Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/25 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either 80 mg telmisartan in combination with 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide alone or with other medications. Before starting this medication, sodium or volume depletion should be corrected. Kidney Impairment Patients No dose adjustment is required for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. This medication is not to be administered to patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min). Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended. Liver Impairment Patients Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. The dose should not exceed 40/12.5 mg daily.
