This medication is used to assist dietary and exercise therapy to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin and metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar levels. Therefore, this medication may help patients who have difficulty managing their blood sugar.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dosage is determined according to the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. Patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dosage is to take this medication 50/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet once, and can be increased to 50/1000 mg twice daily, 1 tablet once.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and aids in blood sugar control. While taking this medication, there is a rare risk of serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, stop taking the medication immediately and inform your healthcare provider. Serious side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication may be dangerous for patients with severely impaired kidney function or those with specific conditions such as heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or severe infections, so be sure to consult a physician if any of these conditions apply. The use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, and it should be resumed only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal. It is safest for women who are pregnant, potentially pregnant, or breastfeeding not to take this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so especially when taken together with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar changes should be monitored carefully, and appropriate action should be taken if symptoms of hypoglycemia occur. During treatment, regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed, and vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, necessitating vitamin supplementation if needed. Excessive drinking, dehydration, severe infections, and pre- or post-surgery conditions may require temporary discontinuation of this medication, resuming only after symptoms improve and kidney function is confirmed as normal. Additionally, this medication may interact with certain drugs, so if other medications are being taken, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function, so caution is advised when using this medication, and regular kidney function tests are recommended. If an overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately to receive appropriate treatment, which may include blood dialysis if necessary.
