This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy, and for patients who have not previously received diabetes medication, it can be combined with Metformin when adequate blood sugar control cannot be achieved with monotherapy. Additionally, this medication may be used in combination with other medications such as sulfonylureas, Metformin, thiazolidinediones, and insulin when monotherapy does not provide sufficient blood sugar control. It is also added in cases where control cannot be achieved with various combination therapies, effectively managing blood sugar levels. This medication is used to enhance diabetes management by complementing various treatment approaches.

How to take

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur after taking the medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. While taking this medication, inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, may occur; patients should inform their healthcare provider immediately if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and should not be taken if allergic to this medication or its ingredients. Patients with impaired kidney function may need dosage adjustments, so they should take it according to a doctor's instructions. This medication can be used alone or with other diabetes treatments, but some patients may experience hypoglycemia; thus, blood sugar levels should be monitored regularly. In clinical trials, side effects such as headache, upper respiratory infections, rhinitis, and diarrhea have been reported; if these symptoms are persistent or worsen, consult a healthcare provider. This medication is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, so it is important to consult a doctor before taking it. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so regular monitoring of kidney function while taking this medication is important.
