Adult dose

Sildenafil, 25 to 50 mg recommended dose administered orally about 1 hour before sexual activity, once a day. In some cases, it may also be administered between 4 hours and 30 minutes prior to sexual activity. Dosage may be adjusted according to efficacy and tolerance.

This drug dilates blood vessels and can lower blood pressure. Therefore, taking it with nitrate agents or NO donors can pose a risk of excessively low blood pressure, so it is essential to inform the doctor of any medications being taken. Patients with cardiovascular disease should adequately check their heart status before taking this medication, and it is advisable not to use it in states that could be dangerous to the heart. As this drug is an erectile dysfunction treatment, it may place a burden on the heart during sexual activity, so patients with severe cardiovascular disease should not take it. Patients with low or high blood pressure, or those who have recently experienced serious heart disease or cerebrovascular disease, should not take this medication. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, immediate medical attention is required, as failure to treat this could result in penile tissue damage and loss of erectile function. This drug needs caution for patients with specific liver diseases, kidney diseases, the elderly, and use with other drugs may require dosage adjustment. The artificial sweetener aspartame in this drug should not be administered to patients with phenylketonuria.
