How to take

This medication is generally taken twice a day with food. The dosage should be increased gradually, and the initial dose should be determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not treated with metformin: Start with this drug 50/500 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and may escalate to 50/1000 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time. 2. Precautions

This drug contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. While taking this drug, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Additionally, this drug can cause inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur, notify a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or severe infection should not take this drug. Temporarily discontinue this drug before tests using contrast agents and resume after confirming that kidney function is normal. It is safer not to take this drug during pregnancy or in women who may become pregnant, and while breastfeeding. There is a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis that can occur during the use of this drug. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain arise, inform a physician immediately. Also, this drug poses a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is advised when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise, and special attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia when used in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents. This drug is not recommended for patients with impaired liver function or severe liver disease. Regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during use, as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, and supplementation may be necessary if needed. There are other drugs that may interact with this medication, so all medications currently being taken should be disclosed to healthcare professionals for careful management. If surgery is planned, this drug should be discontinued 48 hours before surgery, and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Elderly patients are likely to have reduced kidney function, necessitating dosage adjustments and regular kidney function tests. It is advisable to avoid alcohol intake during treatment, and to consult healthcare professionals in case of sudden dehydration, severe diarrhea, or vomiting.
