Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with problems passing through the gastrointestinal tract, as the medication may remain in the body if the gastrointestinal tract is obstructed or if excretion is difficult. Patients with gastrointestinal ulcers or esophageal varices should use this medication with caution. The medication may irritate the affected area while passing through the gastrointestinal tract in solid form. People who are prone to constipation should take care when using this medication, as it may worsen constipation, and there is a risk of elevated blood ammonia levels in patients with impaired liver function. During treatment with this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension may occur. If these symptoms are severe, it is necessary to discontinue use or reduce the dosage. There have also been reports of side effects such as constipation, abdominal distension, and indigestion after long-term use of this medication. It is important to consult a medical professional if any adverse reactions occur. In patients with chronic kidney disease, this medication should be administered cautiously after confirming kidney function through blood tests. If kidney function deteriorates rapidly, it may be necessary to discontinue the medication or consider alternate treatments. Since this medication is an adsorbent, it is advisable to avoid taking it simultaneously with other medications, as this may decrease its efficacy. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use this medication if absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been fully established. Safety for children or infants has also not been established, so caution is required when using it. Elderly patients may experience more adverse effects due to decreased physical function, so special care is needed when using this medication.
