Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication helps to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes by assisting dietary and exercise therapy. It can be administered as monotherapy, and in cases where adequate blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy in patients who have not received diabetes medication previously, it can be used in conjunction with metformin. Additionally, this medication can be administered together in cases where sufficient blood sugar control is not achieved through monotherapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin to enhance effectiveness. When blood sugar is not adequately controlled with combination therapy involving sulfonylureas and metformin, thiazolidinediones and metformin, or insulin and metformin, this medication can also be added to improve therapeutic outcomes. In summary, this medication is used in various monotherapy or combination therapy settings to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe hypersensitivity reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur after administration, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication may induce acute pancreatitis, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe indigestion occurs, seek medical attention immediately. This drug should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it should be avoided in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components. Patients with impaired renal function may require dosage adjustment for this medication, and regular kidney function tests should be conducted following the physician's instructions. Hypoglycemia symptoms may occur during treatment with this medication, especially when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylureas; blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently and precautions against hypoglycemia should be taken.
