Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. First, during the use of this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Also, this medication may cause pancreatitis, so symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea should be promptly reported to medical staff. The metformin component can lead to a rare but serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so if sudden muscle pain, difficulty breathing, severe fatigue, or abdominal pain occurs, stop treatment immediately and visit a hospital. This medication should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or those with severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or liver disease. In particular, the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests using radiologic contrast agents, and should be restarted only after confirming normal kidney function. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be performed during treatment, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are advisable. Additionally, as there is a risk of hypoglycemia, caution should be exercised when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise, and the risk of hypoglycemic symptoms can increase when taken with other hypoglycemic agents or alcohol. If surgery is planned, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the surgery and restarted only after confirming the return of normal kidney function after the operation. Finally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during the course of taking this medication.
