Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. First, during the use of this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Additionally, this medication may cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). If symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur, inform your doctor immediately. The metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but very serious metabolic complication, which can manifest as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or decreased consciousness. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and visit a hospital. This medication is not to be used in patients with impaired kidney function, severe heart failure, liver disease, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those in certain acute disease states. A kidney function test must be performed before taking this medication, and regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during treatment. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication, especially in cases of acute alcohol intoxication or poor nutritional status. Also, you should discontinue this medication for a certain period before and after surgery, so inform your healthcare provider if surgery is planned. This medication can cause low blood sugar, so caution is needed when skipping meals or when there is a sudden increase in physical activity. When combined with other antihyperglycemic agents, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood glucose levels should be monitored carefully. While taking this medication, side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and upper respiratory tract infections may occur. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children under 18, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers. In elderly patients, careful monitoring is required due to the possible decline in kidney function.
