View approved original text

This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes and is used in conjunction with diet and exercise. Initially, it is administered as monotherapy, and if blood sugar control is insufficient, it may be combined with Metformin. Additionally, if monotherapy with Sulfonylurea, Metformin, Thiazolidinedione, or insulin is ineffective, this medication can be used in combination to treat the condition. If blood sugar control remains challenging with multiple medications, this drug can be added as well. It assists in improving blood sugar control by combining various treatment methods.

Precautions

This medication may cause allergic reactions; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing occur after taking the medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Severe pancreatitis may occur within the first 3 months of starting therapy; immediately visit a hospital if experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe discomfort in the abdomen. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not take this medication, nor should those allergic to this drug or its ingredients. Patients with decreased kidney function must adjust the dosage of this medication, requiring periodic kidney function tests. When used in conjunction with other antihyperglycemic agents, particularly insulin or Sulfonylurea, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, necessitating frequent monitoring of blood sugar levels and dose adjustments as needed. Serious adverse effects such as severe joint pain or bullous skin disorders can occur, so report any such symptoms to a doctor immediately. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication, and safety for children and adolescents under 18 years has not been established. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical care as appropriate treatment is needed; this medication can be partially removed by dialysis. This medication generally confirms cardiovascular safety; however, greater caution is needed in elderly or those with impaired kidney function.
