Precautions

This medication consists of two main ingredients, each used in the treatment of diabetes. First, this medication contains sitagliptin, which helps control blood sugar but can rarely cause serious allergic reactions or skin disorders. If such symptoms occur, you should stop taking this medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin carries the risk of causing pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, so if you experience symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting while taking it, you must inform your healthcare provider immediately. Second, this medication also contains metformin, which lowers blood sugar levels but can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis. Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain, and if these symptoms occur, you should receive medical attention promptly. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections or dehydration, congestive heart failure, pregnant or breastfeeding women. During treatment, regular monitoring of kidney function is necessary, and if a sudden decline in kidney function is suspected, the use of this medication should be discontinued. Moreover, this medication can cause hypoglycemia, so you should pay particular attention to symptoms of low blood sugar, especially when taken in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents, and take appropriate measures if they arise. It is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and to stop taking it for a period before and after surgery, resuming only after kidney function has recovered. Rarely, severe joint pain or skin blistering has been reported; if such symptoms occur, you should inform your doctor. Finally, this medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
