Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes who have difficulty managing their blood sugar levels through dietary and exercise regimens by using sitagliptin and metformin together.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with meals, gradually increasing the dose to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg, taken twice daily, one tablet at a time, and can be increased to 50/1000 mg. 2. For patients currently treated with metformin: The recommended initial dose is sitagliptin.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and contains two components: sitagliptin and metformin. First, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms like skin rash or difficulty breathing appear, discontinue immediately and consult a physician. This medication may cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; therefore, if you experience abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain, you should inform healthcare professionals immediately. Additionally, the metformin component can rarely lead to a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis; thus, if symptoms such as sudden muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or lethargy arise, discontinue this medication immediately and seek medical attention. Patients with poor kidney function or specific conditions such as severe infections, dehydration, or heart failure may be at risk when taking this medication, so they must consult a physician before use. When undergoing surgery or tests that use iodine contrast, this medication must be temporarily stopped, and should be resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. It is advised that pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers avoid taking this medication. During the use of this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, so regular meals should be maintained and sudden exercise or skipping meals should be avoided. Furthermore, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other hypoglycemic agents, so dosage adjustments should be made according to a physician's instructions. This medication may cause gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.), and if symptoms are severe, healthcare professionals should be consulted. Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be performed, especially for the elderly or patients with diminished kidney function, as they require extra caution. It is best to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication as excessive drinking can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Rarely, severe joint pain or skin disorders can occur, so if such symptoms arise, inform a physician immediately and discontinue medication. Finally, if any unusual symptoms occur while taking this medication, it is important to consult healthcare professionals promptly for appropriate measures.
