Precautions

This medication is a diabetes treatment that contains sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride. Firstly, during use of this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, urticaria, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or lips appear, the use should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Moreover, pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may rarely occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite appear, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Metformin contained in this medication can cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which may be accompanied by symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and changes in consciousness, so if these symptoms occur, the hospital should be visited immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, and it should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests using iodinated contrast agents. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant and nursing mothers should also refrain from taking this medication. While taking this medication, irregular dietary habits, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications may lead to hypoglycemia, so caution should be exercised, particularly when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, where the risk of hypoglycemia increases, thus monitoring blood sugar levels regularly is important. Additionally, this medication should be administered with caution to patients with liver dysfunction, the elderly, or those with poor nutritional status, and safety should be confirmed through regular kidney function and blood tests. Before and after surgery, the administration of this medication may need to be temporarily halted depending on food intake and kidney function. Finally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and in case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. Patients taking this medication should be well aware of the precautions mentioned above, and it is crucial to consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur.
