This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in managing blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone at the start of treatment and can be combined with metformin in cases where previous diabetes treatment has not been effective. If blood sugar is not adequately controlled with mono-therapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medication can also be added. It is effective in improving blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients when employed in various stages of treatment.

How to take

This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg when used alone or in combination, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear after administration, use should be stopped immediately and a physician consulted. During treatment, if symptoms of acute pancreatitis such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur, stop taking the medication and inform medical personnel immediately. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not use this medication, nor should individuals allergic to this medication or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function need to be cautious with this medication’s dosage, and routine kidney function tests before and during treatment are important. Hypoglycemia may occur when this medication is used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications, particularly when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Rare side effects such as severe joint pain or blistering conditions similar to pemphigus have been reported, so if such symptoms occur, notify a doctor immediately. The use of this medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and safety in pediatric patients under 18 years old has not been established. In case of overdose, general emergency treatments such as gastrointestinal decontamination may be needed, and this medication can be partially removed by hemodialysis. This medication does not significantly impact cardiovascular safety, but regular health check-ups and consultations with healthcare professionals are necessary during administration.
