Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, sitagliptin may rarely cause serious allergic reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, you should immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical attention. Also, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs, it should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder. Symptoms can include muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and confusion. If these symptoms occur, you should stop taking the medication immediately and visit a hospital. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infection, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, it is essential to stop taking this medication before any tests using radiological contrast agents, and to resume only after confirming that kidney function is normal following the test. It is advisable not to use this medication in pregnant or lactating individuals, or in children under 18 years of age, as safety has not been established. During the course of taking this medication, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted to check for abnormalities, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are recommended. Moreover, when taking this medication alongside insulin or sulfonylurea medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood sugar levels should be monitored closely. If surgery is planned, this medication should be stopped 48 hours before the surgery, and should only be resumed after oral intake has returned following surgery and kidney function has been confirmed as normal. Finally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and if any unusual symptoms or discomfort occur during the course of treatment, medical personnel should be consulted immediately.
