This medication is used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular surgery, angina, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with various risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, and increase HDL cholesterol levels, serving as an adjunct to diet in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is particularly effective in patients with primary dyslipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used to manage cholesterol levels in children aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug plays a critical role in reducing cardiovascular disease risk and improving blood lipid status.
