View approved original text

This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy, and may be combined with metformin when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy in patients with no prior medication experience. Additionally, it is administered in combination when blood sugar control is insufficient with mon therapies such as sulfonylurea, metformin, thiazolidinedione, or insulin. If blood sugar control remains challenging when multiple medications are used, this drug can be added to enhance treatment efficacy. It helps improve blood sugar control and assists in diabetes management.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions in some patients; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. This medication can induce acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas; hence, any symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting should prompt immediate medical attention. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not take this medication, and those allergic to this medication or its components should avoid it. Patients with reduced kidney function need dose adjustments for this medication, thus regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and the drug should be taken according to the doctor's instructions. In clinical trials, adverse effects have been reported, primarily upper respiratory infections, nasopharyngitis, and headaches, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in combination with other diabetes medications, so caution is needed. When taking this medication with insulin or sulfonylurea, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, hence blood sugar should be checked frequently, and dose adjustments may be necessary. If severe joint pain or skin blistering symptoms occur, the use of this medication should be stopped immediately, and medical staff should be informed. Pregnant or nursing women are advised against using this medication, and safety in children or adolescents under 18 has not been established. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function; therefore, kidney function should be regularly evaluated before and after taking this medication. In the case of overdose, general treatment measures should be followed, and dialysis may be considered if necessary, so strict adherence to the prescribed dosages is crucial. This medication has relatively few drug interactions, but it should be taken according to doctor's instructions when used with cyclosporine or digoxin. If unusual symptoms arise while taking this medication, inform medical staff immediately to receive appropriate measures.
