How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, instill 1-2 drops in the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce the frequency. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and should not be used in patients who are allergic to this medication or similar components. If symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness, conjunctivitis, or transient burning sensation occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Caution is needed as eye irritation or discomfort may sometimes arise. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, susceptibility to the infecting organism should be checked, and it should only be used for the required minimum duration. A thorough investigation of previous allergic reactions or risk of shock is advisable, along with skin reaction testing. Prolonged repeated use may lead to overgrowth of resistant bacteria, so if these symptoms appear, usage should be stopped, and appropriate treatment should be sought. This medication should not be used in conjunction with specific antibiotics, so interactions with other medications must be reported. When using systemic aminoglycoside medications, blood concentrations should be monitored periodically. During treatment, contact lenses should be avoided, and temporary blurriness of vision may occur after instillation, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided. The risk of bleeding may increase when used with anticoagulants, so blood coagulation status should be checked regularly. It should only be used during pregnancy when essential, and breastfeeding should be carefully considered as it may harm the baby. Overdose may cause inflammation and swelling in the eyes, increased tearing, and itching, with blood concentration control and dialysis being potentially helpful. This medication should not be injected directly into the eyes, and attention is required as the incidence of resistant bacteria has been reported.
