Efficacy & effects

Improved blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in controlling blood sugar for patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. It can initially be administered alone, and if patients without prior experience of diabetes medication find it difficult to manage blood sugar with monotherapy, it may be combined with metformin. Additionally, when sufficient blood sugar control is not achieved with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin monotherapy, this medication can be administered in combination. If blood sugar control remains difficult after combination therapy with sulfonylureas and metformin, thiazolidinediones and metformin, or insulin and metformin, this medication may be added to enhance blood sugar control.
