Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to improve blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone in patients who are starting treatment for the first time. However, if blood glucose control is difficult with monotherapy, it can be taken in conjunction with metformin. Additionally, this medication is added as a combination therapy when blood glucose control is insufficient with monotherapy or combination therapy of sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and insulin. This medication can be used with various diabetes treatments to aid in effective blood glucose management. Therefore, it improves diabetes treatment in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens.
This medication is administered as a single daily dose of 100 mg for monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. This medication can be taken regardless of meals. For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments are necessary, and regular assessments of kidney function are recommended before and after administration. 1. For patients with mild renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 60mL/min/1.73 m2 and < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2), dosage adjustment is not required. 2. For patients with moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 45mL/min/1.73 m2 and < 60mL/min/1.73 m2), dosage adjustment is not required. 3. For patients with moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 30mL/min/1.73 m2 and < 45mL/min/1.73 m2), a dose of 50 mg is administered once daily. 4. For patients with severe renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 15mL/min/1.73 m2 and < 30 mL/min/1.73 m2) or end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] < 15 mL/min/1.73 m2), a dose of 25 mg is administered once daily. This medication can be administered regardless of the timing of dialysis.

Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur while taking this medication, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, which can increase the risk of hypoglycemia, so blood glucose should be checked frequently, and symptoms should be monitored. Some patients may experience side effects such as headaches, upper respiratory infections, rhinitis, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, vomiting, muscle pain, limb pain, back pain, pruritus, thrombocytopenia, dyspepsia, dizziness, increased triglycerides in the blood, increased low-density lipoproteins, hyperglycemia, weight loss, hypernatremia, and erectile dysfunction; if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is advised.
