Treatment of essential hypertension and reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases
This medication helps control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also used to lower the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality from cardiovascular diseases in patients aged 55 and older, with a history of major cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and stroke, or who are at high cardiovascular risk. It is especially suitable for individuals who find it difficult to take ACE inhibitors. Thus, this medication effectively reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improves health.
As telmisartan, it should be administered orally at a dosage of 40 mg once daily with water, and can be taken regardless of meals. Depending on the patient, a dosage of 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dosage may be increased up to 80 mg once daily. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect is achieved 4 to 8 weeks after treatment initiation. For reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, it is recommended to take 80 mg orally with water once daily regardless of meals.
