Topical treatment for moderate to severe scalp psoriasis and plaque psoriasis
This medication is used for local treatment of moderate to severe scalp psoriasis and plaque psoriasis outside the scalp in adolescents (12 years and older) and adults. It helps effectively improve the symptoms of plaque psoriasis occurring on the scalp and skin. Regular use may contribute to alleviation of symptoms and improvement of skin condition.
This medication should be applied once daily to the affected area. Use on the scalp is recommended for 4 weeks, and for areas outside the scalp for 8 weeks. The daily usage should not exceed 15g, and the maximum weekly usage should not exceed 100g for adults. When using on the scalp, the medication is applied to the entire affected area; normally, a dose of between 1g to 4g per day is sufficient. This medication should not be used directly on the face or eyes.
The maximum usage limit per week for adolescents should not exceed 60g.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Avoid use in individuals with hypersensitivity to this drug, those with calcium metabolism issues, certain types of psoriasis, severe kidney or liver diseases, children, and in areas around the face or eyes. Patients with eczematous otitis externa who have a perforated tympanic membrane should also avoid using this medication. It is important not to use it on areas with skin infections caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, or on wounds, ulcers, or areas with specific skin conditions. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, elderly individuals, patients with liver dysfunction or diabetes should use this drug with caution. Especially since corticosteroid components can affect blood sugar levels, consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Using this medication may lead to skin reactions such as itching, skin irritation, rash, and worsening of psoriasis. Rarely, skin infections, hypersensitivity reactions, or eye irritation may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, discontinue use and consult a professional. Long-term or excessive application over large areas may lead to serious side effects such as adrenal insufficiency, elevated blood sugar levels, and increased intraocular pressure due to systemic absorption of corticosteroids, necessitating caution. This drug should not be applied to sensitive areas such as the face, around the eyes, mouth, genital skin, or mucous membranes, and hands should be cleaned thoroughly after application. Additionally, avoid excessive exposure to natural or artificial light. There may be recurrence of psoriasis symptoms even after treatment is stopped, hence observation by a physician is necessary. Using this drug together with other corticosteroid medications is not recommended, and caution should be taken as combining it with salicylic acid may reduce efficacy. Pregnant or nursing individuals must consult healthcare professionals before using this drug, as it may affect the fetus or infant. Usage is recommended only for children aged 12 years and above, as pediatric patients are at a higher risk for side effects compared to adults and should be particularly cautious. Excessive use may lead to increased blood calcium levels resulting in symptoms such as muscle weakness and coma, thus it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage and administration. Finally, this drug is not for ophthalmic use; if it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water, and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
