View approved original text

This medication helps improve symptoms associated with enlargement of the prostate due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. It promotes regression of hypertrophied prostate tissue, improves urine flow, and facilitates urination. Additionally, it reduces the frequency of acute urinary retention, preventing sudden urine blockage. As a result, it contributes to a decrease in the need for prostate surgery, particularly transurethral resection or prostatectomy. Therefore, it is used to effectively manage symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How to take

Precautions

This medication should not be used in children or women. Particularly, pregnant women or women of childbearing potential should not handle broken pieces of the tablets; if the tablets are unbroken and coated, usual handling does not expose to the active ingredient. During the use of this medication, depressive moods or mental health issues such as depression may arise, so patients should consult a healthcare professional immediately if such symptoms occur. Patients with known allergic reactions to this medication or those with specific genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not take it. Patients with liver function impairment should use this medication cautiously. Although generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience sexual side effects, which are usually mild and temporary. There have been reports associated with breast cancer in men with long-term use, but a clear causal relationship with this medication has not yet been established. This medication may increase the risk of certain high-grade prostate cancer, so a physician should conduct appropriate evaluations before and during treatment. There are minimal interactions with other drugs, and it does not affect CYP-450 enzymes, making it relatively safe to use in combination with other medications. Pregnant women or nursing mothers should avoid taking or coming into contact with this medication, as it can be harmful to male fetuses during pregnancy. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established, so this medication is not used in this population. Elderly patients can use this medication similarly to adults, and dose adjustment is not necessary. This medication may lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, so caution is required when interpreting PSA test results. There is no specific treatment for overdose, and this medication should be safely stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
