This medication is used for various gastrointestinal diseases, including stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also helpful in preventing postoperative ulcers and treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is administered preoperatively to prevent Mendelson's syndrome. This drug reduces gastric acid secretion and protects the mucosa, alleviating symptoms and aiding recovery. It plays a crucial role in improving gastric health, allowing for safe consumption. It is effectively used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
Typically taken 2 tablets orally twice a day, regardless of meal times, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Stomach and duodenal ulcers: Take 2 tablets twice daily, or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. Particularly for duodenal ulcer patients, taking 4 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime increases the healing rate. The same dosage applies for ulcers due to NSAID administration or long-term NSAID use. Typically heals within 4 weeks.
This drug should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or in individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components. It should also not be administered to patients with a history of acute porphyria, patients with impaired kidney function, those who have undergone gastric surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants and newborns, and patients on a diet that restricts potassium intake. Patients with liver dysfunction, a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, those with a history of kidney dysfunction, and patients taking NSAIDs should use this drug with caution. This drug may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those in middle age and older who have recent onset of dyspepsia should be checked for malignancies before administration. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers due to Helicobacter pylori infection should undergo eradication therapy, and caution is needed in critically ill patients in intensive care or those with hypophosphatemia, and patients with swallowing difficulties. While using this drug, rare adverse reactions may occur, such as anaphylactic shock, skin rash, hives, angioedema, fever, bronchospasm; if symptoms appear, administration must be discontinued immediately, and consultation with healthcare professionals is required. Blood tests may show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, liver dysfunction, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.), dizziness, drowsiness, mental confusion, etc. If any abnormal symptoms occur, they should be reported immediately. Long-term use should be avoided, and regular blood, liver, and kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment, using the minimum effective dose for the symptoms. Elderly patients, those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, and patients with impaired immune function are at increased risk of developing pneumonia while taking this drug, so caution is necessary. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this drug, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. This drug may interact with other medications, so consult with healthcare professionals, especially when taking anticoagulants, antibiotics, or anticonvulsants, and some medications may require a dosing interval. It is advisable for pregnant or nursing women to avoid using this drug, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established, thus its use is not recommended. If an overdose occurs, appropriate measures such as inducing vomiting, gastric lavage, or if necessary, blood dialysis can be conducted. This drug may promote bacterial growth in the stomach by reducing gastric acid secretion, so regular examinations, including ocular examinations, are necessary during long-term use.
