This medication is effective for painful muscle spasms associated with musculoskeletal disorders, such as shoulder-arm syndrome, adhesive capsulitis, and low back pain. It is also used in the treatment of spastic paralysis caused by neurologic diseases, which include various neurologic conditions like cerebrovascular disorders, spastic myelopathy, cerebral palsy, and consequences of spinal cord injuries. Therefore, this drug significantly contributes to alleviating muscle stiffness and pain, reducing discomfort in daily life, and aiding functional recovery. It is effectively used to improve muscle stiffness and pain caused by musculoskeletal and neurologic diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Eperisone Hydrochloride, 50mg per dose, taken orally 3 times a day after meals. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by certain patients. First, patients who have an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to this drug must not take it. Additionally, it should not be used by patients with severe myasthenia gravis, which indicates extremely weak muscles. This medication contains lactose, so patients with genetic disorders that inhibit lactose digestion should avoid taking it. This drug should be used cautiously in some patients. Patients who have a history of allergic reactions to medications or have poor liver function should exercise caution when using this drug. Patients with liver dysfunction must be particularly careful, as liver function may worsen. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur, so caution is required. Rarely, severe allergic shock may occur; if symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be received. Liver function test results may rise, so the administration should be stopped if abnormal symptoms appear. It may also affect kidney function, and if proteinuria or abnormalities in blood tests occur, observation and action are necessary. Anemia may develop, so blood status should be closely monitored. Skin rashes or itching may appear as allergic reactions. Mentally, symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, headache, and limb paralysis are rarely reported. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain. Urinary symptoms may include rare occurrences of urinary disorders. Generally, symptoms such as lethargy, dizziness, and reduced muscle tension may occur, so caution is required. Other symptoms may include facial flushing or excessive sweating, and edema may develop. Furthermore, rare but serious skin conditions like Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Syndrome and symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, blisters, conjunctivitis, and stomatitis should be closely observed. If these symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, and consultation with medical personnel is necessary. While taking this drug, drowsiness, dizziness, or weakness may occur; therefore, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Moreover, this drug may have increased side effects when taken with similar medications; caution is required when co-administering with other muscle relaxants. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety is not clearly established. Women who are breastfeeding should ideally avoid this drug; if it is absolutely necessary to use, breastfeeding should be discontinued. In children, the safety of this medication has not been fully established, thus caution is necessary. For the elderly, special care is needed, such as reducing dosage, as physical functions may decline.
